Hands of Hope premieres in Laos, celebrating cross-border friend

The international screening of the documentary Hands of Hope, centered on China-Laos friendship, took place in Vientiane, Laos, on Oct 30, alongside a public open day event.
Hosted by China Southern Power Grid (CSG), the event featured the theme “Lighting the Path to Education, Building Mekong Bonds”.
The event was graced by prominent figures, including Vansay Tavinyan, former deputy head of the Propaganda and Training Board of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee; LI Xizhen, economic and commercial counsellor at the Chinese Embassy in Laos; and representatives from CSG’s News Center.
Other attendees included Vikram Channa, vice president of Warner Bros. Discovery Networks, producers from the China Review Studio, and representatives from various Lao government departments, companies, and media, as well as students and teachers from schools involved in the “Light of Hope” charity initiative.
Tavinyan praised Chinese enterprises, like CSG, for their cooperation in economic development and regional power collaboration with Laos. He highlighted their role in fostering mutual understanding and emotional connection between the peoples of both nations through cross-border visual storytelling.
Li emphasized during her speech the shared destiny and close geographical ties between China and Laos, noting that Chinese enterprises’ operations in Laos are a tangible example of Sino-Lao cooperation improving local livelihoods, bringing real benefits to the Lao people.
A representative from CSG’s News Center described Hands of Hope as the company’s sincere effort to strengthen the bond between the two countries through the power of film. They expressed eagerness to collaborate with all parties to continue sharing stories of China-Laos friendship.
The 22-minute documentary used poignant and authentic visuals to tell the touching story of how CSG helped the principal of a school for hearing-impaired children in Laos fulfill her dream of studying in China.
It resonated deeply with the audience, and following the screening, the creative team shared insights into their filming journey. EDL-T employees also shared their experiences in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices.
The event also featured various interactive zones, including the “CSG Charity Achievements Area”, “Documentary Behind-the-Scenes Area”, “Intangible Cultural Heritage Experience Area”, “Electricity Science Area”, and “Charity Wish Wall”, showcasing CSG’s educational support, community building, and power cooperation achievements in Laos through images, objects, and videos.
Jointly created by CSG, China Review Studio, and Discovery Channel, Hands of Hope premiered on Sept 28, the 68th International Day of the Deaf, and has been released in Chinese, Lao, and English.
Following the international screening, it will be broadcast in over nine languages on major global audio-visual platforms.
